Derreen Garden
This woodland garden was designed and planted by the 5th Marquess of Lansdowne in the 1870s. It is now owned and managed by his great great grandson Charlie Bigham and his wife Claire. The garden is famous for its tree ferns, Dicksonia antarctica. Azaleas and rhododendrons thrive there; both the tender Maddenii and Sinogrande are to be found. Among the original plantings are Arboreum Rhododendrons, some rising as high as sixty feet. New planting is continuing all the time and recently two new ponds have been created. There are magnificent views across Kilmackillogue harbour to the Caha mountains from several points in the garden.
